Introduction
For years, I have enjoyed listening to music, tinkering with the stereo
system, and making collection tapes (for my own use) of many of my
favorite songs.
I've always had an interest in
discovering new music that I would like, but in recent years, listening
to the radio has generally been bringing in 'lower yields' than it has
in the past, so I wonder sometimes what good alternative ways there
might be to discover new music.
Perhaps others are wondering this too!
Which is where the
"StephensFavoriteSongs" e-book may be able to help!
The main contents of this e-book is a
collection of about 200 song titles, many of which are presented in the same
arrangement as on my collection tapes. Each entry in this
collection consists of the artist's name and the song title.
In addition, the song title is usually (i.e. about 90% of the time)
coded as a hyperlink which links to a web page where you'll find a
description of the album containing that song and also one or more
links to sound samples for the song. So, for most of the
songs in the list, even if you're not familiar with the song, you're
only a couple clicks away from being able to listen to a
sample! (The web pages and sound samples are hosted by
companies that sell music CDs.)
If your musical tastes are similar to
mine, you might enjoy many of the songs that I have enjoyed over the
years.
To help you find out if your musical
tastes are similar to mine, the e-book includes a free (hyperlinked)
list of 50 songs, randomly selected from the main
collection. This should be a large enough sample that you can
get a good sense of the kinds of music that I like, and it may also be
large enough to give you a good chance of discovering something that
you like and didn't know about before. So please feel free to
download the e-book and try out the free list!
If you like what you hear on the free
list - and particularly if the free list leads you to some music that
you like and didn't know about before, and you would like to hear more
good music, you may wish to purchase and register the e-book in order
to unlock the main collection (which lists about 150 additional songs).
NOTE: - the e-book does NOT contain any
music! Rather, it is a guide to a collection of good songs,
providing (for each song) the artist name, song title, and (in most
cases) a link to a web page where you can listen to a sample of the
song - and you may also be able to buy the CD from that page (though
there are some exceptions).
If you do purchase any music at any of
the linked-to music-selling web pages, I'm not involved in that
transaction in any way. The only item which I'm offering for
sale is the large collection of song titles (hyperlinks) in the
e-book. If you purchase one CD as a result of browsing these
lists, you will probably pay more for that purchase than the $5
registration fee for this e-book. If you buy several CDs, the
e-book registration fee quickly becomes just a small percentage of an
investment in some really good music!
Compatibility
Requirements
When
you register this e-book, you will receive a password which enables use
of the locked portion of the e-book on one specific computer.
(If, in the future, you no longer have access to that computer, or the
computer gets reconfigured to the extent that the e-book thinks it's
running on a different machine, contact me to receive a new password
appropriate to the new/modified computer.)
If more than one computer is available to you where you might register
the e-book, please select one specific computer that meets the
following requirements...
This
e-book is a Windows-compatible executable program (a .exe file),
requiring Windows 95 (or any later version of the operating system) and
Internet Explorer 4 (or any later version of the web browser).
It's not particularly large - about half a megabyte.
Access to the internet is required to listen to any of the sound
samples, or to access any of the linked-to web pages where
music can be purchased. High speed internet access is ideal
for accessing streaming media (the sound samples). If
you have dial-up access to the internet, please check the performance
of the sound samples referenced by the free list to make sure you're
happy with the media player's performance before going ahead and
registering the e-book.
Good speakers are recommended!
